ENSURE Phase 1 New Energy Grid Structures for the Energy Transition

Motivation

With Kopernikus one of the biggest funding initiatives of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research to support the energy transition has started. In the funded research projects technological and economical solutions for the transition of the energy system will be developed involving participants from science, economy and society.

The Kopernikus project ENSURE - New energy grid structures for the Energy Transition – is divided into three phases. The first phase is dedicated to fundamental research (2016-2019), the second phase is dedicated to prototypical implementations (2019-2022) and the results form the basis for a multimodal grid demonstrator which will be built in the third phase (2022-2025).

Goal

The goal of ENSURE is to provide new structures for the energy system. In a holistic approach the energy system will be optimized considering relevant energy sources und corresponding infrastructures.

OFFIS investigates ICT systems to support control mechanisms and integrates these in a future control room. The focus lies on developing assessment methods for the ICT system’s quality and availability and its influences on the security of electric supply.
