Diversity and equality are part of our culture and our mission statement. OFFIS contributes to solving the challenges of an interconnected world in a fact-based manner and in peaceful, international, democratic cooperation. All employees are committed to ensuring that people are not disadvantaged or defamed because of their skin color, origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation or impairments. The legal basis for this is the General Equal Treatment Act (AGG). OFFIS explicitly promotes equal rights and inclusion of all people. Discrimination, mobbing, bullying, exclusion and sexual harassment have no place with us!
The promotion of equal opportunities in research and innovation is an important concern for the EU Commission, which OFFIS explicitly supports. As part of our board initiative "25 in 25", we have been implementing a variety of measures in the area of gender equality since 2020, including the goal of permanently and sustainably increasing the proportion of women in the institute across all hierarchical levels.
The "Gender Equality Plan", which provides an overview of our activities, is available here. It provides an overview of the status quo, goals, and measures for the promotion of professional equality of opportunity at OFFIS and is a living document that is subjected to an effectiveness review at regular intervals and adapted as needed.
Images are created in our minds through language. If only people of one gender are mentioned, this is reflected in our perceptions. Addressing and naming people of all genders eliminates these stereotypical role models.
In addition, language should fundamentally address all people: Women and men and those who do not self-describe as women or men. Gender-appropriate language shows appreciation towards all people, regardless of their gender. Therefore, at OFFIS, we want to make sure to use gender-inclusive language whenever possible. If gender-inclusive wording is not possible, we use the so-called gender star.
For our colleagues, we provide a guideline for gender-sensitive language on our intranet.
