History Few employees, a small budget and unimpressive rented office space: Modest were the OFFIS beginnings on 6 July 1991 at its inaugural meeting, which took place according to protocol exactly from 11.05 a.m. until 12.05 p.m. in a conference room at the University of Oldenburg.

From these beginnings, bit by bit one of the most prestigious research and development institutes in the country originated. And this at fast pace - the revenue development shows e.g. that OFFIS 1992 had a total budget of 760,000 euro, which rose to 5.44 million at the millennium, and doubled again by 2007 to 9.64 million euros. OFFIS is particularly proud of its positive human resources development: From 20 employees in 1992 the team grew to todays figure of more than 250 employees, including graduated computer scientists, physicists, engineers and mathematicians some with PHD or with a professorship - with an average age of just 32 years.
