The fast and reliable realization of new and innovative functions and services in the automotive industry presents manufacturers and their supply chains with enormous technological and design methodological challenges. The performance and limits of microelectronic components are changing very rapidly due to the constant technical progress of semiconductor technology. Therefore, automotive manufacturers who do not want to keep up with the pace of development must anticipate the possibilities of future microelectronic platforms, control components and sensors as early as at the product definition stage of the vehicle. In order to be able to strategically control investments in technology development as early as possible on a reliable basis, automotive suppliers and semiconductor manufacturers also need timely information on the quantitative requirements of future vehicle functions and services on the technology platforms.
As part of the GENIAL! project, the consortium led by Audi will first develop an ecosystem consisting of methods, processes and tools for model-based exchange of requirements and technological possibilities along the entire value chain. Subsequently, a roadmap to microelectronics as a key technology for automotive innovations will be developed. The procedures and tools developed in the project will be validated and improved so that an early and reliable evaluation of the suitability of microelectronic technologies for future vehicle generations will be possible.
The roadmap allows all market participants as well as research and policymakers to plan and control investments and research activities in a targeted manner. It enables the participating industrial partners to use innovative automotive components faster and to increase planning reliability through reliable development processes.
In this project OFFIS coordinates the development of a description language for the modelling of properties of microelectronic components and requirements of vehicle functions. A particular challenge is the systematic handling of uncertain design knowledge. In GENIAL! OFFIS takes over the scientific management of the work package for the abstract description of function, behaviour and performance.
