Physical activity is a key component for independent living at old age. Networked personal health devices facilitate the provision of interventions for promoting physical activity, tailored to the individual needs. In the context of the PROMOTE study activity trackers are used for objective monitoring of endurance activities. The integration of these devices in an online intervention portal enables monitoring and reflection of one's behavior. Initially users were very excited which indicates that individuals really want the devices. Challenges in practical use are particularly related to acceptance and to installation problems. In regular operation, the use of activity trackers is promising.
