For the seventh time, the doctoral workshop "Energy Informatics", organized annually by OFFIS, was dedicated to the role of computer science in the transformation of the energy system. In 2016 the workshop took place in Klagenfurt, Austria and in cooperation with the Alps-Adriatic University and the Lakeside Labs there, again under the umbrella of the GI Section Energy Informatics. Following the event, the five best entries were published in a special issue of the journal "it - information technology" (https://doi.org/10.1515/itit-2016-0058).
For the first time this year, the workshop was supplemented by a methodically oriented workshop for the exchange of established tools and methods in smart grid research: In the workshop "Tools & Methods in Smart Grid Research", scientists from the AIT in Vienna, the FZI in Karlsruhe and OFFIS presented tools and methods that have established themselves as standard tools and methods in their respective working groups. The workshop met with great interest and will therefore also be continued in Lugano in 2017 within the framework of D-A-CH Energieinformatik 2017.
