The objective of the project is to reduce the entire design time and cost of digital embedded HW-SW systems. The proposed methodology will avoid the paradigmatic breaks between system specification, SW-development and HW-design by applying a holistic, consistent, and automated design methodology to the entire system on a chip design and functional design verification. The same analysis, modelling, and structuring paradigms will be used for the entire system regardless whether the implementation will be made in SW or HW. The consistent paradigm shall be based on the object oriented design methodology (C++ and SystemC-Plus, i.e. SystemC extended by object-oriented synthesizable constructs). The project will also support dissemination and standardisation of object-oriented hardware modelling. The shift in paradigm shall be a sustainable development by its support through commercial tools.
The main results of the project will be:
a truly object oriented design methodology; an integrated object-oriented front-end design system including: C/C++ and SystemC-Plus input interface, VHDL/SystemC-Plus co-simulator, SystemC-Plus object synthesis tool, graphical user interface; a SystemC-Plus class library; an industrial evaluation; methodology and guidelines for high-level modelling; an exploitation plan.
