CARESS is an epidemiological data warehouse system for the statistical evaluation of data, especially for cancer registries. In essence, CARESS contains all cancer epidemiological indicators for routine evaluations in a data warehouse. The key figure values can be queried via different interfaces. The data space used for this purpose can simply be restricted by the user with respect to different dimensions, such as the diagnosis period, age, sex, and diagnosis. Using the associated CARESS analysis software, the results of these calculations can be explored and exported in different ways, e.g., as a choroplete map, diagram, or table. Via an interface to the statistical software environment "R Project", users can also perform additional statistical evaluations. In addition, there are evaluation modules for the small-scale analysis of cancer cases, survival time analyzes with "periodR", as well as Kaplan-Meier survival time analyzes. These modules have been designed in such a way that users do not have to have technical knowledge, for example, to use the statistics language R. To perform a Kaplan-Meier survival analysis, it is sufficient to select the cohort period by mouse click and restrict the data space according to the desired analysis. For this purpose, the same control elements are used as with standard evaluations. Extensive reports are also available for interactive reporting.
CARESS is an extended version of MUSTANG for cancer registries, which contains more special evaluation options in addition to the standard OLAP evaluation option, for example the performance of survival time analyses.
