For products such as short-lived giftware an efficient retail relies on the presentation of product assortments in the shops as an eye-catcher for customers. The metadata that comes with the products is typically targeted at order processing and storage, however, not at design aspects or specific themes. This makes the selection and arrangement into appealing compositions a time consuming task that needs experience. In our cooperation, we develop an approach how multimedia analysis and retrieval techniques can be exploited for augmenting metadata of giftware and present an application that supports the creation of harmonic, thematic product compositions in stores.
